Based in Lima, UNOPS in Peru has helped implement government investments worth more than $1.8 billion since 1995.

Partners often hire UNOPS in Peru because it can contract services and procure goods faster and cheaper than alternative sources. Time and cost savings are secured using UNOPS tender procedures that conform to United Nations rules and regulations, and Long-Term Agreements (LTAs) with suppliers.
UNOPS in Peru and UNDP
UNOPS and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have always enjoyed a strong partnership in Peru. In March 2007 the two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding recognizing UNDP as the lead United Nations organization for development projects in Peru and UNOPS specialized expertise in delivering infrastructure and complex procurement services.
The agreement clarifies the division of labour between the two organizations, ensuring that synergies are exploited and overlap avoided. This creates optimal allocation of internal and external resources, better coordination and communication, and greater development impact for partners.
The following are examples of UNOPS in Peru's support to partners in some key sectors:
Public works
National and regional administrations rely on UNOPS to select and contract construction firms to design and deliver public works projects swiftly and cost-effectively.
Working for the Metropolitan Institute for Public Transportation in Lima (EMAPE), UNOPS in Peru is helping overcome chronic shortcomings of the city’s bus system – such as discomfort, lengthy and expensive journeys, frequent accidents and pollution – by selecting and contracting firms to construct and supervise a new underground bus service.
Through the nationwide La Calle de Mi Barrio programme UNOPS in Peru assists the Ministry of Housing in improving living conditions in low-income areas. Learn more about UNOPS in Peru's engagement in the La Calle de mi Barrio programme.

Poverty mitigation
The regional government of La Libertad is promoting development and raising living standards by improving educational infrastructure and equipment, hospitals, drinking water supplies, and sewage systems and road networks. In that effort UNOPS administers the funds of the Public Investment Program 2007–2008.
Education
UNOPS procures educational equipment for the Ministry of Education under various projects. UNOPS in Peru has also contracted a firm to evaluate students at elementary educational centres and teaching staff at elementary, middle and high school levels, and to train a regional educational coordinating committee.
Health
UNOPS in Peru supports Peru’s local and national governments in their efforts to improve the quality and accessibility of health services by procuring needed goods and services rapidly and inexpensively. The benefits for the Government, and consequently for the local population, have been significant. For example, UNOPS in Peru's procurement of four x-ray machines for the national health insurer, EsSalud, saved $1.7 million.
Governance
The Government employs UNOPS in Peru to help implement a variety of projects to provide state entities with the physical infrastructure and equipment needed to execute their responsibilities effectively.
