Junior Professional Officers

The Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme provides young professionals pursuing a career in development with hands-on experience working in a United Nations organization.  Under the supervision of a senior staff member, JPOs work with national and international staff to identify, design, implement, monitor, and evaluate United Nations programmes.  Assignments may have a regional-, country-, or sector-based focus and can last for one to two years.  JPOs—an important and valuable part of the UNOPS workforce—are sponsored by their respective governments.  To learn more about the JPO Programme please view the JPO Service Centre Web site.

UNOPS currently has the following ten JPO positions open ONLY to nationals of the United Arab Emirates (UAE):

Duration of Assignment:  Initially one year.

Post Level:
  All JPO posts are classified in the UN salary system as P2 (L2) level posts.

General Conditions:

  • Only UAE nationals are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates should be under 32 years of age on the date of their application.
  • Candidates must be committed to UN values, highly motivated, professional, have good interpersonal skills, and be able to work well in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Fluency in other relevant UN languages (Arabic, French, and Spanish) is an asset and may be tested at interview.
  • Excellent Word, PowerPoint, database, and internet skills required.
