ARU Past Projects

The following is a selection of the UNOPS Applied Research Unit's past projects.

Evaluation of Input Supply under the Initiative on Soaring Food Prices (ISFP)
Funded by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)

An independent evaluation of the Input Supply to Vulnerable Populations under the Initiative on Soaring Food Prices (ISFP) Project.

The ARU undertook 300 interviews with targeted beneficiaries in the four districts of implementation to document their understanding of how and why they were selected to receive the inputs, the transparency of the input-distribution process and the impact the distribution of inputs has had on lives, livelihoods and agricultural production during the project period.

A Study of Housing, Land and Property Restitution among Sri Lanka’s displaced population
Funded by Centre on Housing Rights and Evictions (COHRE) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR)

A study on housing and property restitution among tsunami- and conflict-affected families in the west (Colombo), north (Mannar) and east (Batticaloa and Trincomalee) of Sri Lanka.

Interviews were conducted among IDPs living in camps, welfare centres or with host families and among 'returnees' who had returned to their original lands.  These families were displaced as a result of the 2006 military operations in the Eastern Province and the tsunami. The survey sought to understand the range of aid and assistance available during displacement, the process for compensation and barriers to return.

Multi-Cluster Rapid Assessment Mechanism
Funded by UNICEF Pakistan

A project to assist the UN Country Team in Pakistan with the development of data collection tools for a Multi-Cluster Assessment Project and pre-testing exercises in Baluchistan and Sindh.

The ARU provided technical assistance for the development of training materials on multi-cluster assessment methodologies. Other services included on site training of local government officials and UN staff in areas such as research methodologies, questionnaire design and assessment techniques, with the goal of establishing an Emergency Assessment Unit similar to the ARU.
