MONROVIA - The rehabilitated Ministry of Internal Affairs building in Monrovia was handed over to the Liberian Government on 31 October as part of a project to strengthen civil administration and promote peace and reconciliation in the West African country.
The rehabilitation, administered by UNDP and supervised by UNOPS, is part of a joint UN programme – the County Support Team – supported by the governments of Sweden, Liberia and other donors. The cost of this phase of the renovation project is $291,000 and the building will house employees of the ministry and the superintendent council.
Speaking at the formal handover, Mr. Jordan Ryan, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, thanked donors and commended UNOPS for completing the project on time. “This is an example of what can be achieved when we work together,” he said. “We will continue to work with UNOPS as we undertake other projects around the country”.
Liberia’s Internal Affairs Minister Ambullai Johnson thanked the UN family for supporting the efforts of his ministry to strengthen civil authority and promote the rule of law.
The dedication ceremony was witnessed by UNOPS Executive Director Jan Mattsson and UNOPS Regional Director for Africa, Jose Salema.
