The UNOPS Volunteer Programme provides outstanding professionals the opportunity to gain practical experience working in a United Nations organization, sharing their knowledge and experience.
The Programme is not related to the United Nations Volunteer Programme (UNV) or the UNOPS Internship Programme.
Eligibility criteria
Candidates must be 18 years or older
- Candidates must possess skills and abilities relevant to UNOPS operations
- Fluency in English is normally essential but in some regions French or Spanish may be required. Knowledge of other United Nations working languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish or Russian) is an asset
- Fluency in the local language of the UNOPS office in which the volunteer serves is essential
- Candidates must be able to adapt to new environments and to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds
- Candidates must be temporarily or permanently residing in the country in which services are to be performed, irrespective of nationality, and hold a valid visa/work permit
Please note that UNOPS Volunteers are unpaid and all costs connected with a Volunteer's participation in the Programme must be borne by the Volunteer. Volunteers make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and medical insurance.
Application process
Applications meeting eligibility criteria are shared with units at UNOPS headquarters or regional offices, depending on a candidate’s preferred duty station. The hiring unit contacts candidates directly to arrange an interview.
Due to the high number of applications received, UNOPS cannot respond to every application.
