If my involvement results in even a small, but significant change, such as improving relations and mutual understanding between the Iraqi Government and civil society, I feel I have made a difference in the work I do on behalf of UNOPS and the UN.
What makes a big difference in my everyday work is that UNOPS trusts its employees with the responsibility to take the lead on various projects and lets personnel live up to the responsibility associated with each task. At UNOPS there is a continuous process of improvement, providing clients with new tools and possibilities, and personnel the chance to develop.
It is rewarding to be able to work within my own area of interest, national reconciliation, constitutional reform and civil society, where both my personal and academic interests come together. On a daily basis I have contact with NGOs, parliament and the government.
Interacting with people of different origins and backgrounds is a constant challenge, but a fascinating one. While the projects I manage may be challenging, I truly appreciate the fact that the people who work for UNOPS are focused on making a difference.
