When I talk about my job, the word ‘pride’ comes to mind first and foremost. I feel that serving the world community under the UN umbrella makes me particularly proud of my work as I believe that my daily contributions will make a difference to someone’s life somewhere.
As regional Human Resources Associate, my role is to work with managers to find and attract the best candidates for UNOPS, so that we can contribute to the success of the UN. Our recruitment work is extremely varied – one day I can be working with leading academic institutions in Asia to find experts in solar power technology and research, the next I’m recruiting engineers or finding a finance associate. At UNOPS there are plenty of opportunities for me to develop professionally in the HR sphere.
Prior to joining the UN (I worked first for UNDP and now UNOPS), I worked in executive recruitment in the private sector in Thailand. Working at UNOPS, I can use this expertise and play a bigger part in “making a difference” than in the private sector. Here I feel I get to contribute each day I spend in the office.
I am faced with professional challenges every day as no organization runs like clockwork, but at UNOPS we are always able to voice our opinions constructively. UNOPS is geared towards making changes in the organization to meet the evolving needs of our partners – internally and externally – and we are encouraged to be innovative in our approach.
