UNOPS Global Innovation Challenge brings together innovators, entrepreneurs, programmers and developers to harness the creative ideas and solutions needed to tackle some of the world’s biggest challenges.

Advancing resilient infrastructure in the face of climate change

Climate change. It’s the single greatest challenge of our time. And addressing its impact on people, communities and nations will require the world’s infrastructure to be more resilient and better equipped to withstand increasingly frequent extreme weather events. Building resilient infrastructure is critical to ensuring that all people, in all corners of the world, can adapt, survive and prosper – both now and in the future.

But to get there, more than ever, the world needs fresh ideas, solutions and technologies.

And that’s where you come in!

We are calling on innovators and entrepreneurs to identify solutions for building climate resilient infrastructure, which could be used to help communities prepare for, and adapt to, the challenges posed by climate change.

Solutions could range from ensuring reliable power generation and effective emergency responses in the midst of a fierce storm, to advancing sustainable agriculture and the protection of biodiversity, to improving access to clean and safe drinking water. And much, much more.

Solutions submitted in this challenge do not need to be commercialized and will be treated by our review team as confidential.

What is resilient infrastructure?

  • It’s the ability of infrastructure (such as schools, bridges and hospitals), as well as infrastructure networks and systems (such as transport, water and energy), to anticipate, absorb, adapt and recover from natural shocks and stresses.

Are you ready for the challenge?

Participants should submit their ideas by 22 February 2020, 24:00 (CET), to be considered.

Proposals deemed to have the greatest potential to create a positive impact on building climate change adaptation and resilience may be included in an innovation accelerator programme, and provided with support to advance the solution to the marketplace.
