Partnering with USAID

UNOPS supports the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in the implementation of physical infrastructure, humanitarian aid, education, and social and economic development projects.

Over the past decade, UNOPS has helped USAID build roads, bridges, shelters, legal institutions and schools in countries such as Sudan, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, providing livelihoods, boosting economies and promoting lasting peace.

UNOPS Strategic Plan 2014-2017 aims to develop strategic partnerships for knowledge and innovation with partners in the United Nations and beyond. Through its partnerships, UNOPS aims to strengthen its delivery practices, and ensure leadership and innovation in targeted areas of sustainability.

UNOPS and USAID have built a strong partnership, primarily focused on projects related to government and civil society, transport and construction, education, and emergency relief and recovery. The partnership has also supported conflict resolution, peace and security, environment, health, and water and sanitation.

Over the past ten years, UNOPS has implemented over 30 operations in partnership with USAID in Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guatemala, Jordan, Liberia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Senegal, Somalia, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Sudan and Ukraine.

Delivering sustainable results

UNOPS manages physical infrastructure projects in some of the world's most challenging environments, providing partners with world-class standards of quality, speed and cost-effectiveness.

Through this work, UNOPS and USAID have achieved tangible and sustainable results in sectors such as transport and construction, education, health, and emergency relief and recovery.

UNOPS ensures that building designs are based on local expertise and employ local workers, while maintaining the highest international standards for safety and quality. Well-designed and well-constructed schools, roads, bridges, hospitals and police stations enable communities to achieve sustainable improvements in health, education, security and economic stability.
