The partnership aims to deliver accessible solutions that aid in the Sustainable Development Goals.
"Our work with Funzi is an example of how the private sector can step up to the plate and help solve pressing global challenges," explains UNOPS Executive Director Grete Faremo.
The first joint-project is a two-day entrepreneurial "UNOPS Possibilities" forum for women-owned, small- and medium-sized business, held in Amman, Jordan, in cooperation with the Jordan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UK Department of International Development and the Jordan River Foundation.
The forum is followed by training developed and delivered together with the Jordan River Foundation, UNOPS and Funzi.
Funzi has developed a mobile learning platform for the training sessions, which target women-owned, and small- and medium-sized businesses in the country, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to grow their businesses. The course will be available for approximately eight months and covers general business skills, while also addressing common knowledge gaps and barriers felt by traditionally disadvantaged businesses.
Ms. Faremo adds: "Experience has shown us that where women are fully participating in business at all levels, the economy thrives. Engaging small and medium-sized businesses, as well as those owned by women, is not only the right thing to do - it makes good economic sense."
"Improving livelihoods and economic opportunities goes a long way to encouraging the sustainability of whole communities – this goes for everybody, whether migrant or local," explains Tero Salonen, CEO and Founder of Funzi.
He adds: "Funzi's mobile learning platform is a great example of how innovative and traditional teaching methods can be used together to accelerate the development of economies globally."
The mobile entrepreneurship course is accessible for free to anyone with a connected mobile device. The course ends in certification and identifies the most promising women entrepreneurs for an offline intensive training and mentorship programme, to help grow their businesses and participate in United Nations procurement processes.
The new partnership will be formally launched at Slush, Europe's leading start-up event in Helsinki, Finland on Thursday, 1 December.
