The international community witnessed a great number of complex challenges in 2016. The conflict in Syria, humanitarian challenges in countries like South Sudan and Yemen, and an ever-growing number of people displaced from their homes.
It is clear that in addressing the challenges of our generation, including those from growing populations, climate change and emergencies, we need to be quicker, smarter and more effective. In our increasingly connected world, we must find ways to engage effectively with a wider range of partners. One way to do this is to adopt a common language.
By adopting the
Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework, we speak a common reporting language to those inside and outside of the United Nations, reaffirming our commitment to measuring ourselves against international standards.
Full details of how we assess our work against GRI standards, including all relevant topics, indicators and datasets, is available in the GRI index , which accompanies this report.
