UNOPS Executive Director moderates Habitat III urban infrastructure and resilience event

The networking event offered perspectives on the common challenges of infrastructure development in urban settings.

UNOPS Executive Director Grete Faremo moderated the event, entitled 'How can urban infrastructure be resilient for generations to come?' Co-hosted with the United Nations Environment Programme and the University of Oxford, the event took place on 18 October 2016, the last day of the Habitat III conference. Participants from the UN, governments, academia and the development community discussed ways to scale-up the effective implementation of infrastructure development to achieve the objectives of the New Urban Agenda.

The event examineed the main elements to consider when planning resilient and sustainable infrastructure: How governance can be re-imagined to better drive and manage development; and practical steps that national governments and their development partners can take to achieve a more strategic approach to urban infrastructure investment planning and decision-making.
