UNOPS Executive Director participates in Habitat III event on urbanization and least developed countries

The event covers priority areas for governments and local authorities to sustainably manage the transition to urbanization.

On 17 October 2016, UNOPS Executive Director Grete Faremo is speaking at a networking event entitled 'Harnessing the potential for urbanization in least developed countries,' co-hosted by UNOPS and the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States during Habitat III in Quito (Ecuador). Ms. Faremo is discussing the need to expand infrastructure and services to better cope with the growing number of inhabitants in cities.

This side event explores urbanisation from the perspective of the 48 Least Developed Countries. Participants are discussing forward-looking policies and plans for using the rapid urbanisation process currently underway as a vehicle for sustainable growth and building resilient cities. The event covers areas such as urban planning, infrastructure, affordable housing and financing options for investments.
