Sustainable project management

UNOPS manages over 1,000 peacebuilding, humanitarian and development projects for a range of partners, ensuring that we deliver the highest standards of quality, efficiency and results.

As well as meeting time, cost and quality targets for project outputs, UNOPS also uses its implementation expertise and local knowledge to increase the impact of partners’ projects. Photo: UNOPS

Better projects, better lives

UNOPS project managers are driven by the firm belief that better projects — those that are better designed, better implemented and better coordinated — improve the lives of people in need. We use our project management expertise to help governments and donors make development budgets go further, often in some of the world's most challenging environments. UNOPS manages an annual project portfolio of around $1 billion.

We prioritize project sustainability by considering the social, economic and environmental impacts of our projects, and promoting local ownership and capacity development. We also run sustainable project management workshops and host seminars, to share international experience in delivering successful projects for some of the world's most vulnerable communities. Read more about our workshops and a sustainable project management seminar we previously hosted.

In addition, UNOPS provides top-quality, accredited project management training both within the organization and to partners. We have been awarded four prestigious project management certifications, recognizing excellence in both project management consultancy and training services.

UNOPS currently has approximately 1835 employees with project management certifications from AXELOS and the Project Management Institute. Of these, about 75% have been trained while working at UNOPS through our Learning and Development Programme.
