Operational in southern Sudan since 2005 and South Sudan since 2011, UNOPS projects contribute to both humanitarian and development goals in the country. UNOPS specializes in complex infrastructure projects, sustainable project management and sustainable procurement.

We help improve local livelihoods by providing increased access to markets via feeder roads, built using innovative designs to withstand harsh environmental conditions. To meet South Sudan's humanitarian needs, we help our partners increase reach to beneficiary communities by building ports, airstrips and exploring river transport options.

Capitalizing on our expertise in project management, we enable our partners to focus on humanitarian assistance by ensuring smooth camp management operations. We also help the South Sudanese government procure equipment efficiently and transparently.

UNOPS infrastructure projects consider a wide range of community needs. For example, in addition to managing the construction of primary schools for partners in South Sudan, UNOPS has drilled wells for safe drinking water and sanitation on the premises, to help ensure children stay in school. © UNOPS/Jonathan Buckingham
