As an operational arm of the United Nations, UNOPS supports the successful implementation of its partners' peacebuilding, humanitarian and development projects around the world. As mandated by the UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/65/176, UNOPS is a central resource for the United Nations system in procurement and contracts management as well as in civil works and physical infrastructure development, including the related capacity development activities.

Within this context, the Peace and Security Centre (PSC) ​helps partners implement and manage projects in some of the world's most complex and challenging environments. For the past 18 years, PSC has significantly improved people's lives in more than 30 countries around the world.​​

Project management services

The Peace and Security Centre team enables partners to expand their operational capacity by employing extensive, long-standing institutional expertise in managing complex projects. PSC provides the following project management services that can be fully customized to partners' needs:

  • Financial and budgetary management

  • Contracts and grants management

  • Procurement of highly specialized goods and services, including pre-qualification

  • Legal and compliance oversight services

  • Pre-qualification of implementing partners for various areas of work

  • Asset management

  • ​​Pool of experts (Specialized personnel deployment and management services).​

EXAMPLES OF 2015 ACHIEVEMENTS

Over $200 Million in delivery of implementation services

111 core service contracts were signed

Over 40 grant agreements were signed

198 vacancy announcements were published

14,380 applications for vacancy announcements were reviewed

Approximately 289 personnel were recruited in 17 duty stations

1,877 applications were reviewed for Pools of Experts

​91 personnel were selected for Pools of Experts​

Areas of work

With approximately 50 personnel based in New York and over 600 personnel in the field, PSC offers a number of services in the following areas:

  • Mine Action: survey and land clearance, mine risk education, victim assistance, stockpile destruction and advocacy

  • Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR)

  • Counter Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) training and provision of specialized equipment

  • Rapid response and technical support 

  • Security Sector Reform (SSR)

  • Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)

  • ​Explosive detection dogs ​
