Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL)

The Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative catalyses major new investments to speed the transformation of the world's energy systems, to eliminate energy poverty and enhance prosperity.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon launched this global initiative to mobilize stakeholders to take concrete action toward three critical objectives by 2030:

  • Ensuring universal access to modern energy services
  • Doubling the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency
  • Doubling the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix

The initiative is expected to 'change the game' by introducing innovative public-private partnerships built on constructive policy dialogue, investment, and market development by governments, businesses and civil society. It brings together the global convening power of the United Nations and the World Bank, enhancing the ability to mobilize bold commitments and leverage large-scale investment, while harnessing a rapidly expanding knowledge network.

The Water and Energy cluster supports SE4ALL through:

  • Serving as trustee of financial resources and facilitating activities carried out by SE4ALL
  • Providing tailor-made logistical support for the SE4ALL Secretariat, including assistance with travel management
  • Recruiting and training project personnel
