United Nations staff contracts offer an attractive remuneration package with competitive pay and benefits. Staff members at UNOPS perform primary functions and are employed under temporary or fixed-term appointments.
Fixed-term appointments are granted for service of a prescribed duration, for a period of one year or more, up to five years at a time. Temporary appointments are granted for less than one year to meet seasonal or peak workloads and specific short-term requirements. Both appointment types have Professional or General Service categories.
Professional categories usually require at least a Master's degree and are graded by job description into different levels. International professional levels range from P1 to P5 and rise to the Director level, D1 to D2, and then the Assistant Secretary General (ASG) level. For National Professional Officers, levels start from NO-A and go to NO-E.
General Service categories
General Service positions are largely support-related and range in levels from G1 to G7. It is possible for General Service contract holders to move to Professional positions if they fulfil the required criteria.
Work life harmonization
UNOPS offers a progressive work life harmonization policy with flexible working options such as flexi-time, compressed work schedule and telecommuting. The policy applies to personnel on all contract types and based in headquarters, a regional office or a field location.
