The event will bring together a worldwide community of engineers to look at how real change can be brought about towards achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Representatives from UNOPS Infrastructure and Project Management Group will be speaking at the event.
The Blockchain Symposium will focus on blockchain in relation to identity, financial services, the Sustainable Development Goals and land registration. A book on the legal aspects of blockchain – a co-production of UNOPS, Blockchainprojects.nl and a consortium of legal experts – will also be presented during the symposium. UNOPS Executive Director Grete Faremo will give the closing remarks.
This Ministerial level side event to the UN General Assembly offers a platform to discuss essential elements of quality infrastructure and its promotion as an international standard. Co-organized by UNOPS, the European Commission and the Government of Japan, the event will focus on financing infrastructure and how this can be achieved without exposing countries to unsustainable debt risk. UNOPS Executive Director Grete Faremo is speaking at this event.
This event will introduce the Defeat Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs) Partnership, a new ‘public-private-people’ partnership with the goal of sustained actions against NCDs, to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all (Sustainable Development Goal 3). The General Assembly is one of the six main organs of the UN – and the only one in which all 193 Member States have equal representation. During the General Assembly, Member States discuss and work together on a wide array of international issues covered by the UN Charter.
Organized by UNOPS China and Qinhuangdao People’s Municipal Government – in collaboration with Kavli Neuroscience Discovery Institute of Johns Hopkins University and Peking University Sixth Hospital – the theme of this year’s Summit is neuroscience and mental health. The Second regular session of the UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS Executive Board will take place in New York at UN Headquarters. UNOPS Executive Director Grete Faremo will discuss UNOPS work and the Annual Statistical Report on UN Procurement on 5 September 2018. As part of the 2018 High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, this roundtable will enable discussion among relevant stakeholders involved in developing innovative solutions based on blockchain technology. UNOPS, the UN Economic Commission for Europe and the Government of Slovenia will co-host the event. Yoshiyuki Yamamoto, UNOPS Special Advisor for UN Engagement and Blockchain Technology, will participate.
Co-hosted by UNOPS and held at UN City, weeklong courses – taught in the context of the UN Sustainable Development Goals – will focus on empowering people with tools and skills for innovation and design.
Different stakeholders – including the World Bank, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, regional development banks and businesses – will come together to explore ways the UN can better align itself with the rapidly changing world of international finance, and support the 2030 Agenda and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda. UNOPS Executive Director Grete Faremo will be a speaker on a panel entitled ‘Let the investment grow: filling in the gap of trillions.’
