Accountability

UNOPS is committed to operating in a transparent and accountable manner to build trust between the organization and our Member States, partners and the communities and beneficiaries we serve.

Governing bodies

The Executive Board of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS is the governing body of UNOPS. The Executive Director is accountable to the Board for all phases and aspects of UNOPS financial activities and day-to-day management.

The Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions examines UNOPS administrative budgets and proposals for financial arrangements and provides comments and recommendations before it is presented to the Executive Board.

Report wrongdoing

UNOPS takes all reports of possible wrongdoing seriously. UNOPS has an established confidential mechanism for individuals wishing to report misconduct.

Strategic Coordination and Advice
To enhance coherence and effectiveness in the UN system, the Executive Director systemically coordinates with UN peers and relies on external advice from various senior level bodies. Read more

Oversight Mechanisms

Internal Audit and Investigation Group (IAIG) - internal oversight
IAIG provides independent and impartial assurance and advice to improve UNOPS operations and leads the Executive Director’s investigations into alleged fraud, corruption and other misconduct and violations. Read more

UN Board of Auditors
- external oversight
Established by the General Assembly, the UN Board of Auditors audits UNOPS accounts, funds and programmes, and reports its findings and recommendations to the Assembly.

The Joint Inspection Unit of the United Nations System - external oversight
Providing oversight for the UN system, the Joint Inspection Unit conducts evaluations, inspections and investigations aimed at improving management, methods, and greater coordination between organizations.

Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) - external oversight
OIOS assists the Secretary-General in fulfilling his or her oversight responsibilities relating to UN resources and staffing. In specific cases, the Office may also provide investigative support to UNOPS.
