Joint meeting of the Executive Boards of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS, UNICEF, UN Women and WFP. The Annual Session of the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board, as well as the joint meeting of the Executive Boards of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS, UNICEF, UN Women and WFP, will take place in New York at UN Headquarters. UNOPS Executive Director Grete Faremo will give a statement during the Annual Session of the Executive Board of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS on 7 June 2017.
The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is the main global forum for strategic advice, coordination and partnership development. This year's event is the first opportunity for the international community to review global progress of the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, as well as the implementation of international instruments on disaster risk reduction. Stefan Köhler, Chair of the International Recovery Platform Steering Committee, will attend the event.
Held in partnership with the King Abdullah II Fund for Development, the World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) will provide a collaborative platform for shaping the future of MENA through public-private cooperation. This year's forum also aim to address continued geopolitical shifts and humanitarian challenges by supporting multi-stakeholder dialogue on the situation in Syria, Iraq and Libya, and the ongoing refugee crisis. The United Nations Senior Leadership Group on Disaster Risk Reduction for Resilience aims to strengthen UN system-wide coherence on implementation of a risk informed 2030 Agenda, the Sendai Framework, Paris Agreement on Climate Change and other key international agreements. It also seeks to ensure that disaster risk reduction remains a strategic priority for the UN system and related organizations. The symposium will look at how Small Island Developing States (SIDS) can integrate the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Small Island Developing States Accelerated Modalities of Action (SAMOA Pathway) into national planning, policies, strategies and public institutions. UNOPS Executive Director Grete Faremo is attending the event, which is organized by the Government of the Bahamas, with support from the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
