In Albania, UNOPS works with the government and partners in support of projects that improve the lives of communities across the country. This includes upgrading healthcare facilities, procuring digital tools and services, supporting local innovation, and managing grants.
We are also working to advance sustainable tourism in Albania and boost local economic development, while continuing to support Albania’s long-term development through an enhanced justice system.

UNOPS impact in Albania- Restored cultural heritage sites damaged by the 2019 earthquake to safeguard Albania’s national identity and promote socio-economic development. Modernized the justice system by introducing a digital case management platform and enhancing data-sharing across institutions for greater transparency and efficiency.
- Strengthened the COVID-19 response by delivering medical equipment, ambulances and refurbishing hospital infrastructure.
- Improved institutional and legislative frameworks across the Western Balkans through the Knowledge for Reform Action programme, supporting EU integration and reform processes in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia with technical assistance, capacity development, and knowledge exchange.

So far, through the EU4Culture programme, we have restored 18 Albanian cultural heritage sites and work is ongoing in five other sites. It is important to preserve Albania’s cultural identity and heritage as the country makes progress towards joining the European Union.
