UNOPS has supported sustainable development in Serbia since 2001, providing project management, infrastructure, procurement, human resources, and advisory services. Projects focus on improving governance, the livelihoods of vulnerable communities, health and education infrastructure, water supply and waste management. Many of these projects have emphasized national ownership, supported the employment of minority groups and incorporated sustainable construction methods.
UNOPS largest project in the country is the European Partnership with Municipalities Programme (EU PROGRES), funded by the European Union and the governments of Switzerland and Serbia. EU PROGRES is a comprehensive programme that is improving infrastructure and local government services in Serbia's poorest regions, while promoting entrepreneurship and local culture. UNOPS is implementing the project in 25 underprivileged municipalities in the south and southwest regions of Serbia.
