What does good governance mean for cities and what will it take to align city priorities with the objectives of the Paris Agreement? UNOPS Executive Director Grete Faremo will join mayors and climate governance leaders from around the world at a session of the 2019 C40 Summit titled ‘Accelerating climate action through good governance’, to explore why good governance lies at the heart of climate leadership. The C40 Summit will be attended by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
The General Assembly is one of the six main organs of the UN – and the only one in which all 193 Member States have equal representation. During the General Assembly, Member States discuss and work together on a wide array of international issues covered by the UN Charter.

Hosted by the Governments of Norway, Iraq, Somalia and the United Arab Emirates, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the UN Population Fund and the International Committee of the Red Cross, this conference will focus on various aspects of conflict-related sexual violence. UNOPS Executive Director Grete Faremo will participate in a panel discussion on humanitarian innovation that will look at new ways of combating sexual and gender-based violence.
Women Deliver champions gender equality, as well as the health and rights of girls and women. The conference will examine how best to advance joined-up efforts for the Sustainable Development Goals and climate action at the global, regional and country levels, helping to scale up levels of ambition towards these objectives. The Commission on the Status of Women is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. UNOPS Executive Director Grete Faremo is attending two side events: One focused on infrastructure, sustainable development and the advancement of women on 11 March and one on social protection, public services and sustainable infrastructure on 13 March. Sanjay Mathur, Director for UNOPS Asia Region, will also participate in a side event on gender sensitive infrastructure in Asia and the Pacific on 22 March.
