Supplier sustainability programme (DRIVE)

Our DRiVE programme helps suppliers understand how sustainable their business or organization is and offers guidance and recommendations for improvement.

Delivering Responsibility in Vendor Engagement - DRiVE

UNOPS wants to work with suppliers who care about their impact on communities and the environment, and who want to work towards a more sustainable future.

UNOPS has created the DRiVE programme to support you in making your business or organization more sustainable. It also offers guidance, guidelines and targets for improvement.

You may need to complete the DRiVE questionnaire when bidding on certain tenders. It is designed to help you understand the systems and practices your business or organization needs to make it more sustainable. By answering the questions honestly our team will understand what you already have in place and find areas for improvement.

Suppliers that complete the questionnaire may be selected to move to the next phases of the DRiVE programme.

Why participate in the DRiVE programme?

The DRiVE programme helps businesses and organizations to become more sustainable and comply with UNOPS commitments and the expectations in the UN Supplier Code of Conduct.

For most UNOPS tenders, you must fill in the DRiVE questionnaire when you submit your bid.

Note that your answers will not be used when we select the winner of the bid, unless specified in the tender documents. We will review your answers and we may ask you for more documents to explain some of your responses. The UNOPS supply chain team may also visit your workplace, with or without notice, to check the information you have provided.

By managing environmental, social and operational risks more efficiently, you can make your business or organization more sustainable in the long run.

To improve your sustainability efforts you will be asked to:

  • Focus on reducing any harm your business or organization has on the environment. This supports UNOPS goal of protecting the environment and helps lower the overall environmental impact of our projects.

  • Make sure workers are treated fairly, workplaces are safe and the local community is supported. Paying fair wages, ensuring safe working conditions and helping with community projects supports UNOPS commitment to creating a positive impact in the communities where we work.

  • Be open about how you operate and what you commit to. You can also share any certificates or awards that show how you follow recognized standards. This helps build trust with UNOPS and our partners and demonstrates that your business or organization is responsible and ethical.

By working with suppliers who are focused on sustainability, UNOPS can make sure the goods and services we source are long-lasting and efficient. This supports the long-term success of our projects, helps us create positive change and builds stronger communities in the long run. It also helps us achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

In today’s market, sustainability is becoming an important way for businesses and organizations to stand out. The UNOPS DRiVE programme can help your business or organization become more innovative, efficient and adaptable, making you a stronger partner for your customers.

What criteria are included in the sustainability questionnaire?

The questionnaire is made up of 64 questions that are split into 10 different categories:

  • Organization, systems and policies

  • Labour standards

  • Equal opportunity

  • Human rights

  • Climate

  • Environmental management

  • Quality management

  • Health and safety

  • Supply shain

  • Ethical conduct

These questions and themes are in line with the UN Supplier Code of Conduct, UNOPS General Conditions of Contract, and UNOPS sustainable procurement policies and priorities.

Download our resource Understanding the DRiVE Questionnaire for tips on how to fill in the questionnaire.

When submitting your bid on our eSourcing platform click on ‘Vendor Submission,’ then ‘Supplier Forms,’ and scroll down to find the DRiVE questionnaire help and glossary. You can also download our resources for more guidance from the box on the right.

If I complete the questionnaire, will I automatically move to the other steps?

Yes, you will be able to move on to the next steps of the bid submission process.

Will filling in the DRiVE form or taking part in the DRiVE programme guarantee engagement with UNOPS?

All suppliers must fill in the DRiVE form when it is part of a tender. Your answers will be reviewed, and we may ask for more information. Taking part in DRiVE does not guarantee future work with UNOPS.
