The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS)

Mission: Humanitarian, development and peace efforts

A quarter of the global population – around 2 billion people – reside in conflict-affected areas.

43M
In 2023, the world recorded the highest number of refugees ever, with over 43 million individuals seeking refuge.

Adding to global vulnerabilities, more than 3.3 billion people are estimated to be living in areas highly susceptible to the adverse effects of climate change.

Through this mission, we champion holistic actions to address the root causes of fragility and strengthen the resilience of communities affected by conflict and disasters.

We are dedicated to amplifying the impact of our work and the contribution UNOPS can make supporting humanitarian action, long-term sustainable development and peacebuilding.

How we support

From across the organization, with our extensive experience in fragile contexts, we bring knowledge, tools and expertise to maximize the impact of our projects. We do this by building community resilience and addressing immediate needs, while tackling the underlying drivers of fragility.

  • Delivering integrated multi-sectoral projects

We combine infrastructure with support in critical sectors like health and climate action, and champion sustainable procurement as a driver of long-term recovery and sustainable development.

  • Integrating mine action for peace and development

We connect our mine action expertise with broader peacebuilding and development initiatives, recognizing the vital link between safety, security and long-term recovery.

  • Providing technical and capacity building support

We offer essential technical assistance and help build our partners’ capacity to effectively implement humanitarian, development and peace efforts.

  • Ensuring flexible operational support and sustainable practices

We provide flexible operational support to facilitate complex, multi-sectoral projects, programmes and portfolios, ensuring sustainable practices are prioritized.
