UNOPS and the government of Ethiopia are partnering to procure modern agricultural machinery for the country.

- UNOPS procured and handed over 24 tractors and 3 combine harvesters to the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research as part of the Food System Resilience Programme.
- The equipment will play a major role in strengthening research capacity and boosting agricultural productivity across the country.
- UNOPS also conducted training on the new equipment so that researchers and people using the equipment have the skills needed to maintain and manage the machinery in the long term.
UNOPS is working with the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR) to enhance the institute's research capabilities and mechanization capacity.
As part of a $4.5 million project, UNOPS will procure equipment that will improve the efficiency and precision of agricultural trials in Ethiopia, minimizing the environmental impact of farming practices and accelerating the development of sustainable, high-yield agricultural methods.
“Through sustainable procurement, we will ensure that every dollar spent aligns with our values, promoting environmental stewardship and long-term economic vitality,” says Worknesh Mekonnen, Director of UNOPS Horn of Africa Multi-Country Office.
The agreement was made possible through the collaborative efforts of EIAR and its key partner, the World Bank, demonstrating their shared commitment to advancing agricultural research and innovation in Ethiopia.
