Increasing access to safe water and sanitation services in Ethiopia
UNOPS is supporting the government of Ethiopia's goal of transforming the country's water, sanitation and hygiene services into a data-driven, digitally integrated and climate-resilient system.
Safe and adequate water supply and improved sanitation services are vital for health, productivity, poverty reduction and sustainable socio‑economic development.
Launched in 2013, the One WASH National Programme is Ethiopia’s flagship initiative to transform water, sanitation and hygiene service delivery across the country.
With funding from the World Bank, UNOPS is supporting the government of Ethiopia in transforming the country's water, sanitation and hygiene sector into a data-driven, digitally integrated and climate-resilient system.
"UNOPS is working hand-in-hand with the government of Ethiopia to support equitable access to safe water and sanitation for all Ethiopians," said Worknesh Mekonnen, Director of UNOPS Horn of Africa Multi-Country Office and Representative to the African Union.
As part of the initiative, UNOPS will conduct a comprehensive needs assessment to identify systemic gaps in data quality and reporting, support international benchmarking visits to gather information on global best practices in results-based management and digital monitoring, and develop a technical roadmap for modernizing ONE WASH project management systems.
