UNOPS joined forces with UN Global Pulse Asia-Pacific, UN Women Indonesia and the government of Indonesia to co-host the third edition of Pulse Talk in Jakarta. Diverse voices explored how policy, technology and community action can help build safer, more inclusive digital environments.

“Addressing violence against women and girls in online spaces is a complex and multilayered issue that requires clear, concerted efforts from stakeholders across multiple sectors,” said Ahmed El-Saeed, Regional Head of UN Global Pulse Asia Pacific.

The combined in-person and virtual event created a platform for collective action toward safe and inclusive digital spaces.

We must centre the voices and experiences of those most affected by online violence. Today’s dialogue reaffirms that collaboration across sectors is not just beneficial, it’s essential to ensure digital transformation leaves no one behind.

Rapid digital transformation has opened doors for women and girls – but also exposed them to new risks. This edition of Pulse Talk explored the structural, legal and cultural dimensions of online abuse, while spotlighting youth-led solutions, survivor-centred policies and multi-sectoral coordination.

“Ensuring that girls and women can thrive safely in online environments free of harassment, bullying and violence is going to benefit the whole of society,” said Gita Sabharwal, UN Resident Coordinator in Indonesia.

Through events like Pulse Talk, UNOPS supports the UN Global Pulse Asia-Pacific initiative and works with the government of Indonesia and partners to ensure technology serves as a tool for inclusion and empowerment, in line with national priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals.
