Hospitals and public services in East Jerusalem have been under immense strain due to conflict and the lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. To address these challenges, UNOPS and the government of Japan launched a humanitarian initiative that provides vital assistance in health, education, social protection, and water and sanitation.

As part of the initiative, a mobile X-ray unit was provided to the Red Crescent Society Hospital to significantly enhance the hospital’s ability to diagnose and treat patients.

"The government of Japan hopes that the installed X-ray equipment will help alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in the ongoing setting. Japan continues unwavering support to the people of Palestine, especially in this dire situation," said Ambassador for Palestinian Affairs Katsuhiko Araike.

With a projected lifespan of eight years, the mobile X-ray unit is expected to serve at least 8,000 people, including the elderly and persons with disabilities who often face limited access to care.

"This contribution will not only improve access to quality care but also reinforce the resilience of the health system,” said Karuna Herrmann, Director of UNOPS in Jerusalem.

“Partnerships like this are vital to safeguarding the continuity of essential services,” she added.

Representing the Red Crescent Society Hospital, Dr. Suliman Gosheh said: "This mobile X-ray equipment will greatly enhance our hospital’s ability to diagnose and treat patients effectively.”
