Official visit of UNOPS Executive Director to Mozambique

The visit will emphasize UNOPS ongoing commitment to supporting crisis response efforts in northern Mozambique and aims to better understand additional operational needs – with a focus on climate change, disaster response and development.

UNOPS Executive Director Jorge Moreira da Silva will undertake an official visit to Mozambique from 17-20 June 2024, where he will visit Maputo and Pemba to meet national authorities and development cooperation partners.

The visit will focus on communities affected by the conflict in northern Mozambique and UNOPS support for peace, reconciliation and socio-economic development – through crisis response and recovery projects in Cabo Delgado.

The official visit will emphasize that addressing the situation in northern Mozambique should remain a top priority, and aims to better understand needs in order to support operations in the region.

During the visit, Mr. Moreira da Silva will hold an official meeting with President Filipe Nyusi as well as with several Ministers, government officials and development partners. Discussions will focus on key areas of cooperation.

The Executive Director will also visit Cabo Delgado Province, where UNOPS is supporting the government to implement the Northern Crisis Recovery Project, funded by the World Bank's International Development Association. UNOPS is also managing the World Bank-financed Community-Led Development Funds.

Mr. Moreira da Silva is expected to meet with the Governor of the Cabo Delgado Province and the Secretary of State in Cabo Delgado.
