Strengthening road connections across central Uruguay
A new partnership between UNOPS and the government of Durazno will strengthen road infrastructure and improve connections between urban and rural communities across the region.
Reliable roads are essential for connecting communities, supporting local economies, and enabling people and goods to move safely and efficiently.
In Durazno, central Uruguay, UNOPS is partnering with the department’s government to strengthen the systems and capacities needed to maintain and improve its road network.
Under the new agreement, UNOPS will provide technical assistance to support more efficient procurement processes and strengthen the government’s capacity to manage road infrastructure and maintenance.
By modernizing road equipment and strengthening the management of key infrastructure – including regional roads, bridges and pavements – the project will enhance regional mobility and traffic flow.
Through capacity training initiatives, government teams will develop the skills needed to plan, procure and manage road maintenance activities effectively, securing the long-term impact of the project.
“At UNOPS, strengthening our partners' capacity is essential,” said Ignacio Lacasta, UNOPS Portfolio manager in Argentina.
“By partnering with the government of Durazno, we can help create safer, more reliable connections between rural and urban areas, making it easier for people to access services and opportunities,” he added.
