UNOPS and PAHO join forces to strengthen health systems in Latin America and the Caribbean
A new inter-agency agreement will help strengthen the implementation of health projects in Latin America and Caribbean nations – improving healthcare access and advancing sustainable development across the region.
Across many countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, fragile and fragmented public health systems hinder equitable access to healthcare access and exacerbate existing inequalities.
UNOPS and the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) have signed a new agreement that aims to strengthen health infrastructure, improve access to essential medical equipment, and promote efficient management of health resources across the region.
This agreement allows us to move toward more integrated, accessible and resilient health systems, ensuring that medical equipment and supplies, medicines, and infrastructure reach those who need them most.
“Ensuring the health of all people in our region is fundamental to achieving sustainable development in the Americas,” said Dr. Jarbas Barbosa, PAHO Director.
“We look forward to continued collaboration between PAHO and UNOPS to strengthen access to health systems, supplies and services for all,” he added.
Since 2014, UNOPS and PAHO/WHO have worked together on various initiatives in Honduras and Brazil, including improving health infrastructure, optimizing procurement processes and implementing health management projects. Through this partnership, both organizations will continue working together to improve the quality of life of the most vulnerable populations and strengthen health systems in the region.
