  • UNOPS impact in North Macedonia

    • Improved air quality and reduced emissions through a €10 million EU-funded initiative that introduced eco-friendly buses, upgraded heating systems in public buildings, planted 6,000 trees across cities​, and enhanced public health and planning systems with new air quality monitoring instruments.

    • Cleaned up hazardous waste at Skopje’s former OHIS chemical plant, one of the country’s most dangerous industrial pollution sites, through an environmental remediation project that helps protect ecosystems and public health.

    • Enhanced institutional, technical, and administrative capacity of the government to accelerate EU integration process, facilitate engagement of the civil society, youth, media and public, and to support implementation of some of the country’s key reforms.

    • Strengthened health sector resilience during the COVID-19 crisis by delivering ventilators, testing kits, and protective equipment as part of a €4 million EU-backed response.
