Since 1995, UNOPS has supported development efforts across Somalia. With national ownership and capacity development as key priorities, UNOPS helps strengthen Somali institutions and supports a range of activities on behalf of partners in critical sectors – including health, governance and civil society, conflict prevention, peace and security, and emergency response.
From constructing new public buildings and improving the capacity of state institutions, to supporting disaster preparedness planning, UNOPS works collectively with partners to create sustainable change and build a better future.
Key Information
UNOPS Impact in Somalia- Supported peace and security by rehabilitating and constructing police facilities, and through the delivery of training and technical development, provided support to enhance oversight and governance, and strengthen rule of law.
- Provided technical and project management support for government-led national responses to crises, including floods, drought, political instability, locust invasion, food insecurity and the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Managed the construction of a new headquarters for the Immigration and Naturalization Directorate of the government of Somalia to enhance efficiency and coordination.
