The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS)
A unique model in the UN system
UNOPS is unique in the UN system, for a number of reasons.
Unlike other members of the UN family with mandates in policy and programming, UNOPS is the only member of the UN family that is 100 per cent dedicated to implementation.
Instead of following a programme of work, UNOPS is demand-driven and responds to the needs as they emerge.Equally, our work is not limited by the three pillars of the UN: peace and security, humanitarian action and sustainable development. UNOPS support spans the entire operational range of the UN system.
Finally, UNOPS is self-financed. UNOPS does not receive any core funding of any variety. Instead, UNOPS provides services in exchange for the full recovery of costs. That means UNOPS must deliver value for money, cost-effectiveness and clear results, in everything we do.
UNOPS comparative advantages allow for unparalleled agility and scalability – and enable us to work with a diverse range of partners across sectors and countries, including in fragile and conflict-affected contexts around the world..
Our unique model allows us to expand or contract our presence according to partners’ needs. We respond rapidly in fragile and conflict-affected contexts. And we facilitate multilateral action through an efficient and cost-effective platform.
In today’s fragmented global landscape, where tensions and institutional silos often hinder progress, implementation offers a unique and practical space for collaboration.
What sets UNOPS apart?
Dedicated to action
UNOPS sole focus on implementation makes UNOPS a unique force in the UN system to deliver action at scale.
Zero programming. Zero policy work. Zero core funding.
Through the practical solutions we provide to the UN family and our partners, UNOPS helps turn ambitions into results and delivers tangible action for communities around the world.
Partnerships for impact
To address growing global challenges, strong partnerships and effective collaboration are critical.
At UNOPS, we only work in partnerships.
As the UN’s largest example of networked multilateralism, UNOPS connects UN agencies, governments, civil society and private partners to deliver efficient, scalable solutions that maximize value for money and impact.
Getting the job done
When needs escalate, we scale quickly – mobilizing people, expertise, and resources to meet the moment. And when our work is done, we step back – ensuring sustainable outcomes and leaving stronger systems, capacity and communities behind.
With the UN
UNOPS is a central resource for project services – we serve as a key operational arm of the UN system, enabling the work of our partners by providing practical solutions that deliver impact where it’s needed most.
We support UN agencies, funds and programmes to efficiently and effectively deliver on their mandates, and provide critical operational and logistical support to UN missions and humanitarian action operations.
UNOPS is accountable to UN Member States – including those represented at our Executive Board and the UN Board of Auditors.
