In Ethiopia, we're working with the government on several projects to increase food security, with financing from the World Bank.

As part of a $3.6 million emergency locust response programme, UNOPS is procuring more than 170 vehicles, including motorcycles, to support enhancing the Ministry of Agriculture's emergency operations.

UNOPS will also procure additional specialized vehicles for rapid response teams, personal protective equipment and spare parts to maintain locust response operations. This will improve the efficiency of combating locust outbreaks – safeguarding crops and livelihoods across the country.

In addition, UNOPS will work with the Ministry of Agriculture to procure $900,000 worth of computer equipment and other ICT equipment in support of its Adaptive Safety Net Programme. The equipment will significantly improve data collection and management as well as enhance programme implementation.

UNOPS will also work with the Ministry of Urban and Infrastructure to procure more than 150 motorcycles and Land Cruisers as part of the Rural Connectivity for Food Security Programme. The motorcycles – which can navigate narrow, unpaved and poorly maintained roads – will help ensure that even the most isolated villages can be reached while the Land Cruisers will be used to transport items across challenging terrains.
