Japanese Ambassador tours Darfur project sites

H.E. Mr. Hideki Ito, the Ambassador of Japan to Sudan, is touring several UNOPS-implemented project sites 26-29 September 2016.

Among the sites on the list is a recently completed 15-month project in West and East Darfur designed to improve water security for vulnerable communities.

The project was designed to meet the increasing demand for water accessibility in the areas, improve water quality and decrease waterborne diseases.

At the end of the project, a high-quality pumping station and water supply equipment were handed over to the Government of Sudan.

"The good coordination and collaboration of various stakeholders – including the Government of Japan, various Sudanese Government Ministries, UNOPS and local communities – led to the success of the project," said Eyob Getachew, Head of UNOPS Office in Sudan.
