In the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, conflict has impacted people's access to educational and livelihood opportunities.

To help address this, UNOPS constructed a vocational training centre and an administrative building in Ituri Province as well as procured state-of-the-art training equipment for the National Institute for Professional Preparation in Ituri, South-Kivu and North-Kivu Provinces, with funding from the government of Japan.

The training facility and equipment provide young people – especially young people who are unemployed or affected by conflicts – with the opportunity to acquire professional certifications and skills essential for employment and entrepreneurship.

The modern facilities will help provide a conducive learning environment with cutting-edge professional training equipment. The project is also helping to fill the Democratic Republic of the Congo's skilled labour gap by helping to meet growing labour market needs, supporting economic growth.
