UNOPS and the Islamic Development Bank to work together to advance the Sustainable Development Goals

UNOPS Executive Director, Grete Faremo, and H.E. Dr. Bandar M. H. Hajjar, Islamic Development Bank Group (IDBG) President, signed a Memorandum of Understanding today.

The overall aim is that both organizations will work together to support countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and strengthen their capacities to operationally deliver, with an emphasis on fragile and conflict-affected states.

UNOPS will also provide management services and solutions to the IDBG’s decentralization process, as well as technical assistance in project implementation and sustainable procurement support to host governments executing loans.

With partners like the Islamic Development Bank, we aim to increase the impact of our work on the ground. Building on our respective strengths, our joint ambition is to see strong projects that truly serve and meet the needs of the communities and cities in which we work."

Grete Faremo - UNOPS Executive Director

This Memorandum of Understanding is the continuation of a strong partnership between the two organizations. UNOPS and IDBG worked together previously in Guinea and Liberia, in the construction and rehabilitation of several health facilities following the Ebola outbreak of 2014-2015.

“We look forward to supporting them with furthering economic development and social progress in their member countries,” said Ms. Faremo.
