UNOPS Executive Director to visit Honduras and Mexico

The visit to Latin American countries will take place from 10 to 13 June.

Jorge Moreira da Silva, UN Under-Secretary-General and UNOPS Executive Director, is scheduled to visit Latin America, in a three-day visit that will take him to Honduras and Mexico. 

During this official visit, he will be accompanied by Dalila Gonçalves, UNOPS Director of Latin America and the Caribbean Region.They will meet with government officials of the two countries to reaffirm UNOPS commitment to supporting national and international priorities including on sustainable development, economic transformation, and climate resilience. 

The visit will also be an opportunity to strengthen relationships with key development partners, including other UN entities, international financial institutions and bilateral partners, with a view to improving coordination, maximizing impact, and supporting the effective implementation of large-scale programs. 

UNOPS ongoing support in the region includes: 

In Honduras, UNOPS is working with the Honduran Social Security Institute (IHSS) and the Ministry of Health to strengthen public health procurement and critical healthcare infrastructure. These efforts help ensure timely access to essential medicines and supplies nationwide, improve access to healthcare services, and enhance the quality of care at one of the country’s main hospitals. 

In Mexico, in partnership with the federal government, and working alongside six other UN agencies, UNOPS is overseeing the implementation of an initiative to help improve the inclusion, protection and opportunities of returnees, migrants, asylum seekers, refugees and other vulnerable populations in situations of mobility. UNOPS also provides technical assistance to promote sustainable urban mobility projects and strengthen public transport systems in the country.
