President of Peru attends handover of UNOPS-procured ambulances
UNOPS is working with the government of Peru to expand access to critical health services for communities across the country, through a modern fleet of ambulances.
The President of Peru, José Balcázar Zelada, joined government representatives and UNOPS officials at an official handover ceremony of 28 urban ambulances to Peru’s Ministry of Health (MINSA).
The ceremony marked an important milestone in a project that will help strengthen emergency care and enable faster and safer transfers in regions across the country. More than 200 ambulances for rural and urban areas will be delivered by UNOPS through the project.
“Access to quality healthcare is a priority for the government. Therefore, these first 28 ambulances that we deliver today are essential to save lives, reduce risks, and strengthen emergency care in 16 regions of Peru,” said President Balcázar at the ceremony.
I thank the Ministry of Health and UNOPS for making these results possible.
After significant savings were achieved through efficient procurement processes, the initial plan to procure a fleet of 184 ambulances was increased to over 200 vehicles – further strengthening pre-hospital care and improving emergency response capacity.
“Today we are demonstrating the results of an effort aimed at reducing gaps in healthcare. These ambulances will strengthen emergency care and will benefit more than 36 million Peruvians,” said Juan Carlos Velasco Guerrero, Minister of Health.
"This project demonstrates how efficient, transparent and internationally standardized implementation can translate into better public services for the population", added Nicholas Gardner, Director of the UNOPS Andean Multi-Country Office.
