The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS)
Supporting food system resilience in Chad
As part of a World Bank-financed food system resilience programme, UNOPS will work with the government of Chad to support food security.
Chad continues to navigate persistent challenges related to food security for the fifth consecutive year. Ongoing instability, rising prices and climate crises such as floods and droughts, among other factors, worsen the situation.
To strengthen national capacity to build food resilience, UNOPS will support the implementation of the $21.6 million World Bank-financed Food System Resilience Programme.
“UNOPS will help build more resilient, sustainable and climate-smart food systems by providing concrete solutions for the effective and sustainable implementation of the Food System Resilience Programme in Chad," says Silvia Gallo, Director of UNOPS West Africa Multi-Country Office.
UNOPS will also procure more than 2,200 pieces of essential equipment – including agricultural and laboratory equipment, meteorological and hydrometric stations and vehicles, solar energy solutions, and IT and multimedia equipment.
In addition, UNOPS will also work with national organizations to strengthen quality assurance for agricultural inputs, including seeds, fertilizers and pesticides, in close collaboration with the technical departments of the Ministry of Agriculture.
