UNOPS and Republic of Palau pave way for future collaboration

On the side lines of the UN Ocean Conference in New York this week, a new agreement signed today signals the beginning of joint work on development projects in the Pacific country.

"We look forward to further applying our institutional knowledge  in support of the Sustainable Development Goals in the Republic of Palau, while also expanding opportunities for socially responsible investments in the country," said UNOPS Executive Director, Grete Faremo.

His Excellency President of the Republic of Palau, Mr. Tommy Esang Remengesau Jr., expressed confidence in the support UNOPS would provide in its mandated areas: project and contract management, procurement and infrastructure development.

"When it comes to strategic advice, UNOPS makes an excellent partner," said President Remengesau. "We are excited to start working with them to structure investable deals, with a focus on social housing and renewable energy, as these two areas are very important to us."

"We are equally delighted that, through its partnership with WATO, UNOPS leads the way in tackling the issue of sensitizing new generations to the need to clean the oceans from plastic pollutants," he added.
