Over the past 10 years, UNOPS has collaborated on more than 200 projects funded by the World Bank around the world, ranging from emergency response to tailored technical assistance.
Reducing the time it takes to negotiate between UNOPS and Governments for projects funded by the World Bank, this new agreement will ensure a more streamlined process.
"By speeding up the process of negotiation, we can reach those who need our help sooner. Speed is of the essence in many UNOPS and Governments' projects with the World Bank," explained UNOPS Executive Director, Grete Faremo, adding: "This agreement will facilitate and simplify our cooperation."
During a ceremony held at UNOPS headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark on 22 August 2016, Grete Faremo and Hartwig Schafer, World Bank Vice President for Operations Policy and Country Services, spoke about the importance of the new agreement.
"UNOPS is the first UN system organization to conclude all templates on technical assistance, delivery of outputs, and the provision of supplies and vehicles under World Bank-financed projects. Reaching such an important milestone within a short timeframe was only possible thanks to the dedication and commitment of both organizations" added Benedetta Audia, UNOPS legal advisor, who led the negotiation for UNOPS.
